Although a laptop computer is not required for the course, those participants who bring a laptop will have the opportunity to use some of the tools available through CADDIS.  These include accessing information, using interactive conceptual models, developing species sensitivity distributions, and potentially using the GUI interface to more easily access and use the open source statistical package "R."  Computers will need to have the ability to access the New England Center's wireless internet.  Participants wanting to try their hand at developing SSD's, will need Excel.  Participants wanting to download "R" and the CADStat GUI must have XP, the Vista operating system is not compatible.

Instructor:

Susan Cormier has authored more than eighty peer reviewed publications and has been a regular presenter and workshop instructor at National SETAC meetings since the 1980’s. She has made substantive contributions to the development of methods for biocriteria, non-chemical criteria, condition assessment, and ecological risk assessment.  Dr.Cormier co-led the development of the US-EPA Stressor Identification Guidance for the Agency and the CADDIS website and has applied these methods in several cases in the Willimantic and Naugatuck Rivers in CT and Long Creek in Maine. She believes that caring about the environment is not enough and that you also have to care enough to try to do the right things.
