Title: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI): Challenges & Opportunities

Abstract: Whether you are a scientist or a real-world problem solver, you are continually faced with the challenge of answering complex questions about how nature works and how to put scientifically-based policies into practice for the good of our environment.

Research has shown that the more diversity a team has, the more likely they will be able to answer complex questions, develop innovative solutions, and articulate positions that will have a positive impact. But what does that look like in real life?

After this presentation you will be able to:

  • Describe what DEI is
  • Describe why DEI is important
  • Describe challenges with DEI in science and engineering
  • Identify areas where DEI could help you become a problem solver and policy analyst
